High Point Road Corridor Study
Greensboro DOT Greensboro, NC
As part of our on-call agreement with the City of Greensboro, M/A/B evaluated the possible transportation impacts of a recently adopted corridor redevelopment plan. The plan sought to encourage significant redevelopment along a 3.5-mile segment of High Point Road/West Lee Street, which is currently an undivided, urban primary route with cross-sections ranging from seven lanes to five lanes as it extends into downtown Greensboro. M/A/B analyzed A.M. and P.M. peak hour operations at 18 intersections along the corridor for existing (2009) and future (2025 and 2035) conditions. The Piedmont Triad Regional Travel Demand Model was used to develop peak hour forecasts for the future analysis timeframes. In addition, the net changes in traffic generation were calculated and distributed throughout the network from fourteen opportunity sites along the corridor. Five different future scenarios were analyzed, testing a variety of different roadway cross-sections and levels of redevelopment. Recommendations for roadway improvements as well as public transit, pedestrian and bicycle enhancements were made as part of this study
