NC 53 Corridor Study

Jacksonville Urban Area MPO
Jacksonville, NC

M/A/B is developing a multi-modal corridor study for the NC 53 (Western Blvd) corridor in Jacksonville, NC. The corridor is one of Jacksonville’s most heavily traveled corridors, leading into the main gate of Camp Lejeune, and has experienced significant commercial and institutional development over the years. M/A/B is working with the MPO and local stakeholders and property owners within the corridor to develop a plan that improves traffic capacity, enhances safety, encourages use of alternative modes, and accounts for existing and future land uses and developments. The study will analyze key intersections for capacity and safety improvements and evaluate the possibility of access management improvements along the corridor. A future land use plan for the corridor also will be developed that identifies future redevelopment opportunity areas and visualizes how those properties can improve the vitality, function and aesthetics of this gateway corridor.
